News from the Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,

Over the past weeks the images coming out of countries who are struggling to cope with the impact of the spread of COVID19 on their communities have been very hard to watch.

We know that some in our school community have loved friends and family living in this reality - you are very much in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

Bishop Greg has asked that our Parishes take up a collection to go towards helping the dreadful situation which Covid-19 has brought to India. On the weekend of May 29 & 30, the Parish will be taking up leaving collections to support the work of Caritas Australia, in the battle against COVID 19. If you wish to donate to this cause and are unable to attend Mass on this weekend you may make a monetary donation via CDFpay.

When words fail us,

let silence be our prayer.

When bereavement abounds,

send your profound comfort.

When fears become reality,

let active hope prevail.

When inequality kills,

let justice be our practice.

When despair overwhelms,

let your peace pass understanding.

Thank you!

After our call for helpers last week to run our hot lunch day, we were inundated with volunteers. With 397 orders it was easily the biggest hot lunch day we have had in my time at St Michael’s. Thank you so much to all who were able to give up some time to help and to our Parents and Friends group for coordinating it. What a great community we are!

200 years of Catholic Education in Australia

This year is the bicentenary of Catholic Education in Australia. The first Catholic school in Australia was established in Parramatta in October 1820. This year’s theme for Catholic Education Week in the Diocese of Sale, “Faith in the future - I have come that they may have life and have it to the full,” is a combination of a quote from John’s Gospel and the theme for the bicentennial celebrations of Catholic Education in Australia.

Friday is the launch of Catholic Education Week for Sale Diocese and will be opened by a Mass celebrated by Bishop Greg for school leaders in the Diocese. Please enjoy the Clontarf Aboriginal College WA students praying the 200 years of Catholic Education National Prayer.

School crossing update

Kay St will be closed between Church & Breed Streets on Thursday May 20th between 9:30am and 2:30pm so that asphalting works can be completed on the school crossing upgrade.

Kind regards
