Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
At last Wednesday’s Catholic Education Week Mass and Awards, we had the pleasure of awarding Olivia Wisewould with the Sister Marcella rsj and Sister Mildred rsj Catholic Education Award which is named after the first two Josephite sisters to take up leading and teaching positions in the Diocese of Sale. Sr Mildred and Sr Marcella were inspiring leaders and teachers who set up St Michael’s Catholic Primary School, Traralgon, commencing their work in April 1902.
This new award recognises the contribution the Josephite Sisters have made in the Diocese of Sale. Ms Di Corleto was also recognised as a first year Principal in the Diocese and received a commissioning icon.

National Reconciliation Week 27 May - 3 June
The 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
Bridging Now to Next urges us to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
At a time when Australia faces uncertainty in its reconciliation journey, this theme calls on all Australians to step forward together.
Yesterday, our students recognised Sorry Day to remember and acknowledge the Stolen Generations and the history of forcible removals and its ongoing impacts.
Buddy Seats
Thank you to the Traralgon Men’s Shed Program who gifted us two lovely Buddy Seats for our playground. These seats will be a wonderful addition to the school yard and will provide the students with a place of comfort and care if needed.
Unwell students
As we move into Winter, please ensure that if your child is presenting with any worrying cold and flu symptoms, that you keep your child home and seek medical treatment if necessary. This is to help prevent further spread to other students and staff. As per the Department of Health guidelines, if your child has vomited at school during the day, they are excluded from school for a period of 24 hours.
Casual Clothes Day - Friday 30th May
In recognition of the amazing students we have, we are going to have a casual clothes day on Friday 30th May. No gold coin donation is required, as this is all about celebrating the kind, compassionate and dedicated children at St Michael’s. Please ensure your child wears sensible shoes - no crocs, birks, slides or slippers.
Multicultural Day - Friday 13th June
To celebrate the many students who come from amazing cultures and backgrounds across the world, we will be holding a Multicultural Day celebration. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be given out in the classrooms on Friday.

Come and visit our Second-hand Uniform Shop on Thursday, 29th May, from 3:00pm to 3:30pm.
Kids grow fast, and uniforms don’t always keep up! If you have any spare uniform items in good condition, we gladly accept donations. Plus, you can swap good condition items for another item you need!
It’s a great way to encourage recycling and reuse while supporting our school community.
Our next Parents & Friends group meeting is Monday 16th June at 7pm in the Staffroom at St Michael's.
John 14: 23 - 29
The Gospel of John was written sometime during the last decade of the 1st Century. At this time the community of believers were beginning to come to terms with the absence of Jesus, there was an acceptance that the glorious return of Jesus still lay some time in the future. The community wrestled with keeping alive the memory and message of Jesus when there was no end in sight.
In this weeks gospel, Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to the disciples and to the world. The Holy Spirit is to be the Advocate (the Paraclete) of the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit performs a dual purpose: firstly, to carry on the teaching; and secondly, to continue to remind the believers of all that Jesus said and did. The action of the Holy Spirit continues in the world today – inspiring and teaching those who are open to hearing and keeping alive the memory of Jesus, his teaching and his compassion. We talk about being full of school spirit and team spirit but these feelings of loyalty and commitment are only a distant echo of what it is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Advocate of Jesus in that the action of the Holy Spirit continues to bear witness to the message of Jesus.
St Michael’s Primary School has a long tradition of supporting our local St Vincent de Paul Society. We aspire to live the Gospel message by serving Christ through our care for the poor, showing respect and compassion to all members of society.
Each year we support St Vincent de Paul with two collections: mid-year we collect cans for the winter and December we support the Christmas Appeal.
We are now collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the St Vinnies winter appeal. We ask that the children bring along canned goods over the next couple of weeks. These items will be collected in the classrooms and might include cans of soup, baked beans, vegetables, tuna …… cans that might be used to create a meal for a family.
On Friday 13th June at 11:30am, at our Whole School Mass, we will present our ‘Winter Collection’ to St Vincent de Paul. We extend the invitation to you all to come along and celebrate the Eucharist with us.
