Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Welcome to the 2025 school year.
A warm welcome to all our new families. I hope you all had a wonderful school holiday break filled with lots of joy and time spent with loved ones. The children have settled back well, and it is wonderful seeing them learning the new routines of their new classrooms.
A reminder that the school gates open at 8:30am and the classrooms open at 8:50am. If children arrive at school before their classroom is open, they are welcome to place their bag at their classroom and then play on the playground until the music sounds at 8:50am. A reminder that the playground near the Foundation building, across from Woolworths, is not to be used before school as there is no teacher on duty in this area.
With the weather warming up this week, please ensure the children come to school wearing sunscreen and have a drink bottle. In cases of extreme heat (35 degrees +), we will implement our extreme heat policy and the children will be kept inside during break times for inside play.
School Drop off and Pick up arrangements
The start and end of the school day are busy times on the roads around the school. The reduction in the speed limit to 40 kmh is helping but we still all need to be mindful that the children are still learning how to navigate crossing roads safely and need the adults to be alert and obeying the road rules at all times.
The best way for children to learn to be safe on the roads is under your guidance, in real traffic, in everyday situations. Until children are about 10 or 11 years of age they do not have the necessary skills and physical abilities to be safe on their own so providing supervised practice is important. Some points to consider:
Supervision: Children need to have their hand held in any traffic situation until they are at least 9 years. It is also recommended that children are both dropped off and collected within the school boundaries, rather than you waiting in the car for them to meet you. We ask that you do not park on the opposite side of the road and call out to your child to cross the road on their own.
Stop, Look, Listen, Think (SLLT) procedure:
- Hold an adult’s hand (for younger children)
- Choose a safe place to cross – where you have a good clear view of traffic in all directions and where drivers can see you
- STOP one step back from the kerb or shoulder of the road if there is no footpath
- LOOK in all directions for approaching traffic
- LISTEN for traffic approaching from all directions
- THINK about whether it is safe to cross the road – when the road is clear or all traffic has stopped
- Walk straight across the road. Keep LOOKING and LISTENING for traffic while crossing.
School Pedestrian Crossings: To promote a safe environment for all – parents and children are requested to use the School Pedestrian Crossings or the Intersection Traffic Islands as these are the safest places to cross the road.
Parking Restrictions: Please obey all parking restrictions (no double parking or parking in driveways) and note that there are No Parking areas in Kay Street. With the increased volume of traffic that your young child will experience, it is important that children are picked up from a predetermined position, rather than finding a different position every day. Local law officers are known to frequent the school at drop off and pick up times, providing tickets to those parking in the incorrect spot.

In Sunday’s gospel Jesus was presented in the temple by his parents following two different rituals. The first was the ritual of purification when a baby was presented in the Temple place forty days after birth. The second ritual involved redeeming a first-born son through tribute to the Temple. Mary and Joseph took the opportunity of attending the Temple to bring Jesus into the presence of God who, according to tradition, dwelt in the Temple.
There is a great contrast between the forceful entry into the Temple by the Lord at the end of his life as the humble entry of the baby Jesus into the Temple. It reinforces the way in which throughout his ministry Jesus confounded many of the expectations about the Messiah.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students at assembly on Friday.
In Week 2 the School Wide Expectation focus is Respect:
I treat my peers, teachers and learning environment with respect.
I show appreciation for the efforts of others.
I speak kindly to others.
I show justice and fairness to all.
I listen carefully to others.
