Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
I would like to announce that Mrs Sharon Scholtes has been appointed to the Deputy Principal position at St Michael’s. Sharon has been currently acting in this role, and has shown to be a fabulous leader for our school. Congratulations Sharon!
Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support
As a principal, I am sometimes asked how behaviour is supported at St Michael’s. As you are aware, the School Wide Expectations are taught and encouraged at all levels, with reinforcing positive behaviour being at the forefront of all that we do. Research suggests that focusing on positive behaviours has a better impact than drawing on negative behaviour displayed by students. You would be familiar with our School Wide Expectations of:
RESPECT LEARNING HONESTY SAFETY RESILIENCE
Naturally, there are times when we do have to address poor behaviour. The following rubric is used to help teachers determine the most appropriate action to take. This is always dependent first and foremost on the context of the situation and the child whom we are working with. As you know, each child needs to be considered individually and a “one size fits all” method does not work in schools.
This tool is being shared with you solely for the purposes of awareness raising within our school community. It is one of many ways in which our teachers try to build positive relationships with all students.
Crazy Hair Day - Friday 15th August
We can’t wait to see all your crazy hair dos next Friday 15th August. As per school policy, we ask that coloured hair spray and face paint is not used.
Book Week - Pyjama Day Monday 25th August
Save the date…. To celebrate Book Week we will have our annual wear your Pyjama’s to school on Monday 25th August. This is my favourite day of the year!!
