Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
The end of the school year is creeping closer and the children and teachers are working hard to maintain the focus on learning. With the easing of restrictions, we hope to be able to enjoy some of our end of year traditions as a whole school.
Our first three Foundation transition groups attended St Michael’s for the first-time last Friday. They all had a wonderful time with no sign of nerves or tears. Due to COVID restrictions we have had to run these sessions a little differently than previous years with small groups coming in. The children seemed to enjoy the opportunity to get to know new friends for next year. These will continue over the next two weeks to allow all the 2021 Foundation children to visit the school before the end of year.
We also heard last week that the school crossing in Kay St is being upgraded to a lighted zebra crossing. After speaking to the Latrobe City Traffic Management Engineer we have been advised that the crossing will not be manned by a crossing supervisor. We have concerns regarding the safety of this crossing operating without a supervisor and have been following this up with Latrobe City Council. The School Advisory Board are in the process of writing a letter that we will also forward onto relevant people involved in making this decision.
Our grade 6 Confirmation candidates will be receiving this sacrament at Masses this week.

As per the fee letter sent to families on 6th April 2020, Important Message about School Fees, there will not be an automatic reduction in school fees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
School fees are an essential portion of resources for the operation of our school and assist our leaders and staff to enhance curriculum and teaching programs. Therefore, we are asking, for those who can, to continue to support the school financially.
If you have concerns about your financial situation, please contact Maria Churton, School Administration Officer at office@stmtraralgon.catholic.edu.au so that we can explore confidential financial support arrangements to enable your child(ren)’s education at our school to continue.
Cancellation of Student Activities
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all student activities for the remainder of 2020 have been cancelled. This now includes the junior swimming program, the Grade 1/2 Camp experience and any further excursions. Gr 3, 4 and 6 camps.
Credits for these student activities will be processed in the coming weeks, updated fee statements will then be issued. If this credit results in your fee account being overpaid a refund may be requested. Such requests must be submitted in writing, via email to office@stmtraralgon.catholic.
If any family has recently become eligible for a Centrelink concession or health care card please notify the office. You may also be eligible for the CSEF payment and a fee concession. The CSEF program for 2020 has been extended until 27th November 2020.
The Department of Education and Training has now advised that CSEF payments may be applied to student curriculum levies paid by families towards the purchase of books, stationery and other learning materials by the school on behalf of a CSEF-eligible student.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students in class until assemblies can resume.
In Week 7 the School Wide Expectation focus was Respect.

I show justice and fairness to all.

This gospel is from the last Sunday of the church’s year. It is the feast of Christ the King. As the year draws to an end, we turn our thoughts to the time when Christ will return as a king. This gospel provides a template for living as a follower of Christ - feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked. The trick is to be able to see Christ in everyone - now there is a challenge for all of us! If we fill our lives with love and kindness, seeing Jesus in each person we meet and always treating others with kindness and respect, then our goodness will never be forgotten.
Dear Families,
St. Michael’s Primary School has supported our local St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years through our food and gift collections.
Normally at this time of year we would be celebrating the end of our school year with our giving Mass. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions we are unable to gather in our usual way.
St. Vincent de Paul Society, however, still desperately needs the support that we, along with our sister schools, provide the people within our community.
This year we are asking that each child donates some festive items. These donations might include: Christmas food, serviettes, wrapping paper, bon bons etc. Consider donating the items that bring joy into your household during this special time of the year.
We ask that the children bring their donation to school by Friday 11th December.
