Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
A couple of weeks back I mentioned the importance of arriving at school on time. Unfortunately this needs to be raised again with families.
There are many reasons why arriving late after the morning music is not okay, these include:
- Children are rushed, therefore feel out of sorts to start their learning
- Children do not get time to run outside and get rid of excess energy
- Children do not get time to connect with their friends
- Children miss key information relating to the structure of the day and this upsets their routine
There are also several reasons why collecting your children early is not okay, these include:
- Children miss out on key learning instructions - they then come back to school having missed the instructions for the tasks and feel overwhelmed because they are behind everyone else.
- Children miss out on key learning concepts - we still teach in the afternoon!! Please don't think that the afternoons are chill and cruisey; they are not. Children are still expected to learn maths, literacy and other key concepts.
- Children miss out on key messages, notes, and reminders for the following day or week.
I understand that every now and then there may be valid reasons, such as medical appointments or traffic hold ups etc. As always if you are experiencing difficulties getting your children to school due to social and emotional reasons, please reach out to their classroom teacher who can help support and put a plan in place if needed.
Catholic Education Week 16 - 23 May 2025
Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Sale will celebrate Catholic Education Week from Friday 16 May – Friday 23 May 2025. This year’s theme is Pilgrims of Hope to coincide with the Jubilee Year of Hope in 2025. Catholic Education Week is a highlight of the year for our diocese, as schools and parish communities come together to celebrate our Catholic identity and unique mission.
Pope Francis has declared a Jubilee Year of Hope in 2025. A Jubilee is a special year of grace and conversion, involving prayer, pilgrimage and sacramental repentance, held every 25 years, or during other years as called for by the Pope. Through a series of concrete rituals, acts and commitments, the goal of a Jubilee year is to inspire and encourage holiness of life among the faithful and therefore to strengthen the Church’s witness to God’s loving mercy in and for the world.

In the 12/13 age group, we were proud to cheer on Xander Szkwarek, Levi Stanistreet, Charlie Mortimer, Riley Collins, Nate Bishoff and Harry Blomquist. Our 12/13 girls—Sammi Illing, Georgie Harper, Kenzy Duddington, Mia Hurley and Poppy Howe—were recognised for their determined effort on the track.
We’re also thrilled to share that many of our athletes qualified for the Division level, and we look forward to seeing those who are able to represent our school once again with pride.
Thank you to everyone who competed and supported the team. Whether you sprinted across the line or powered through to the end, you’ve made our school proud!

On Wednesday 1st May, five talented students proudly represented St Michael’s at the Regional Swimming Championships, showcasing their dedication, skill and determination in the pool.
Hannah Rochstad-Lim, who placed 7th in her race, and Hayden Rawson, who placed 2nd, both competed in individual events, giving their all and making our school proud with strong performances against tough competition.
The excitement continued with the relay team made up of Xander Szkwarek, Poppy Howe, Riley O’Mara and Hayden Rawson, who swam their hearts out to finish 3rd in the state! What an incredible achievement to not only reach the State Championships, but to bring home a medal as well.
Congratulations to all five students on your hard work and outstanding results!
Lacey Thornton at the Gippsland Region Singles Tennis Championship
We’d like to congratulate Lacey Thornton for her impressive performance at the Gippsland Region Singles Tennis Championship, where she placed 2nd!
Lacey showed great dedication and sportsmanship throughout the competition, making us proud with her efforts on the court. Achieving 2nd place at such a competitive event is a fantastic accomplishment, and we look forward to seeing what she achieves next in her tennis journey.
Well done, Lacey!
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be given out at Assembly on Friday.
In Week 4 the School Wide Expectation focus is Learning:
I set high expectations of what I can achieve.
I work hard and always try my best.
I reflect on my own learning and how I can improve.
I can receive and act on feedback.

Shepherds in the first century did not have a particularly good reputation. Yet, despite this, Jesus described himself as the Good Shepherd. With that one word, he acknowledged the reputation of shepherds but utterly dismissed it by describing himself as a shepherd – but a good shepherd. He chose to describe himself as the worst of all occupations but raised the status to unimpeachable heights.
In the gospel passage, Jesus is portrayed as ‘claiming’ his flock; guaranteeing them not only safety but also eternal life. Jesus says of the sheep that belong to him, ‘I give them eternal life.’ He does not say, I give them the promise of eternal life. This oath of loyalty and commitment is all the stronger and more remarkable in light of Jesus’ rehabilitation of the status of shepherds. The gospel of John makes clear that eternal life begins in the here and now but has no end.
