Dear Parents, Guardian and Carers,
Our whole school Mass on Friday was a lovely gathering to support those in our local community who may be experiencing some hardship and require support from the St Vincent de Paul society. Thank you so much for your generosity, because of your support we were able to donate 1100 food items to Traralgon the branch of St Vincent de Paul - it was gratefully received by Barbara Mc Nulty at the Mass. The Mini Vinnies have had the opportunity at the end of last term to visit the centre and learn more about the work of the St Vincent de Paul society. It has been lovely to hear some of their reflections at assembly. As always, our choir led by Mrs Vanyai did a wonderful job in leading us in song throughout the Mass.
This Friday, we celebrate Green and Gold Day. Students may come dressed in green and gold colours to support the Australian athletes at the Paris Olympics. We ask that students bring a gold coin donation to support the Catholic Missions. Families please be advised that it is school policy that students do not use face paint or coloured hairspray on dress up days.
Whooping Cough
The Department of Health, Victoria has issued a health alert, Increasing pertussis (whooping cough) cases in Victoria.

The gospel this week steps back into John, exploring the image of Jesus as the Bread of Life. The chapter and the discourse begin with the miraculous feeding of the multitude. Jesus is described as testing the disciples when he asked them to find enough food to feed the crowd. There was a small boy nearby who had a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish. Jesus took the bread and fish, gave thanks and then had the disciples begin to distribute the food. When everyone had eaten their fill, the disciples collected twelve hampers of leftovers. Some commentators suggest that the twelve baskets represent the twelve tribes of Israel – indicating that the message of Jesus will be enough to feed and sustain the whole of Israel.
Having witnessed this miracle the people have a sudden insight into who they think Jesus might be – the promised Messiah come to free them from their Roman oppressors. This created in them a sense of hope that Jesus was the Messiah – the anointed one of God – would come and once again set the people of Israel free.
A quick reminder that the Parent Meeting for Reconciliation is tomorrow evening at 6pm in the church. If you wish for your child to receive this sacrament then enrolment forms need to be lodged to the Parish Office or brought along to the meeting.
This meeting is a very important part of the preparation for the sacrament.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students in the classroom on Friday.
In Week 3 the School Wide Expectation focus is Learning:
I set high expectations of what I can achieve.
I work hard and always try my best.
I reflect on my own learning and how I can improve.
I can receive and act on feedback.
