Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Welcome back to Term Three! The year is certainly flying. I hope you all had the chance to spend time together as a family and recharge your batteries.
Dear Lord,
As we prepare for the coming of a new term make us ready, attentive and available to hear you.
Thank You for the gift of being able to rise each day with the assurance that You walk through it with us.
Thank You for the gifts of creativity and uniqueness, and the energy to put them to good use.
May the work we do and the way we do it bring new hope, new life, and courage to all we come in contact with this term.
Amen.
St Michael’s Facebook Page
We are excited to announce that St Michael’s school has launched a facebook page. It is a place for us to share events and learning experiences through a social media platform. Just search on facebook for St Michaels School Traralgon and like the page.Thank you to everyone who completed a camp survey form from earlier in the year. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions for how to make the camps program financially viable for the school and families. There was a very clear response that the camp program was worthwhile and that both parents and teachers wanted some form of it to continue.
After taking in the recommendations from the parent and staff feedback and consultation with the school leadership and consultative committee we have agreed on the below structure for our camps program moving forward:
- Foundation - grade 2: School based camp experiences.
- Grade 3 - Long Day adventure camp experience.
- Grade 4 - Two day adventure camp.
- Grade 5/6 (combined) - Three day camp. Location to rotate in a two year cycle.
Important dates to remember:
- 17th July - Year 5/6 swimming program begins
- 31st July - Year 3/4 swimming program begins
- 31st August - Yr 4 Camp to Coonawarra
- 8th September - School closure day
- 11th September - Year 3 Camp to Alambee
- End of term -Thursday 14th September at 3:20 pm.
Kind regards,
Jodie
In Sunday's gospel Jesus invites us to shoulder his yoke and learn from him for he is gentle and humble in heart. When we hear the term, yoke, we tend to think about the yoke that is used to harness oxen together or the yoke that someone might carry on their shoulder to balance a heavy load. But the yoke that Jesus invites us to shoulder in the gospel this week is deceptively simple: love God and love your neighbour. To love God is to consciously make a place in our lives for God. The busy spin that tends to be characteristic of so many people’s lives today does not allow room for God; does not allow room for prayer and quiet; does not allow room for compassionate response to others. To love God and love our neighbour we must first make room for them. Though society views strength and power as values, our readings today remind us that Jesus tells us that the way to God lies in gentleness and humility. It’s important that we instil in our children the importance of stopping to allow time to rest, think and to renew.
