Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Staff and students had a lovely day on Friday in our pyjamas celebrating book week. This week our grade six students and teaching staff head off to The Summit for their camp. We wish them all the best and hope the weather is kind to them.
The Administration Building refurbishment is starting to take shape. By the end of this week the Builders are hoping to have finished the external work and can move inside the building to do the inside fit out. We thank you for your understanding especially with the morning dropoff when large machinery and trucks have been making the entrance into the school more challenging than normal.
COVID 19 continues to be very evident throughout our school, with staff and students being infected on a daily basis. To help keep all members of our school community healthy and safe, we ask that you continue to abide by our St Michael's COVID safe plan. This includes parents entering classrooms on Friday mornings only. We ask that you respect this aspect of our plan and help deter the spread.
Kind regards
Jodie
from the Parents and Friends Group
For those students that didn't get to choose their second gift bundle at the Father's Day Stall, gifts will be available for children to select from tomorrow.
Yesterday the Foundation to grade 2 students and the 5/6 Choir competed in the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod. The junior students competed at 10am. A lot of students commented that they were nervous but excited to perform their songs. They all did a fantastic job and represented the school well. The adjudicator commented on how well they all stood and looked at the conductor. Thank you so much to all the parents who came to support the students. The response was overwhelming. In the end 1/2CD placed 1st, Foundation placed 2nd, 1/2 AB was 3rd and EF received an honorable commendation. The choir performed brilliantly and ended up placing 3rd behind St Mary's Newborough and St Pauls Traralgon. All of the staff are extremely proud of the effort of the students. Congratulations.
This week’s readings have a strong theme of humility. In the gospel, Jesus calls us to act with humility - but what does that truly mean? To be humble is to be modest in the way that we act and go about our day. It’s not about being boastful in our actions or making it seem like we are deserving of special attention. However, it would be wrong to down-play our skills and abilities …….. these too are important! God loves each of us in the same way and calls us to be His disciples on earth. We are called to be attentive to the needs of others, and not always think of ourselves first.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students at assembly on Friday.
In Week 7 the School Wide Expectation focus was Safety :

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge 2022
Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and St Michael's is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:
- access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
- a modern user-friendly interface
- rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
- the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 2 September 2022.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
